Dr Harsha Kariyawasam is Consultant in Allergy Medicine and Medical Rhinology at the Royal National Throat Nose Ear Hospital and University College London Hospital (UCLH) since 2008. This is the UK centre for complex sinonasal disease and is of international standing. He was Head of Department 2012-2017 and continues to be Lead Physician for Medical Rhinology. He also was the Senior Consultant for complex asthma at UCLH until August 2017.
In 2017 he was awarded a highly competitive and prestigious Clinical Excellence Award by University College London Hospital in recognition of clinical, management, research and teaching achievements. In 2008 he was also the winner of the highly sought after PhD Thesis Prize as most outstanding research student and thesis by Imperial College London. His reputation for clinical excellence has led him to be invited advisor in Allergy Medicine to the Civil Aviation Authority UK and the key charity AllergyUK. He is faculty member of several taught courses at UCL and the MSc degree in Allergy Medicine at Imperial College London.
Dr Kariyawasam has an extensive research track record. He has successfully completed several clinical studies that have led to introduction of new treatments for allergic diseases and also works closely with key scientists to understand mechanisms of disease with view to developing better treatments.
