Mr Chaloner qualified from Oxford University Medical school in 1989. He trained in General and Vascular Surgery in London and South Africa and was entered onto the specialist register in 2001.
He was appointed consultant vascular surgeon at University College Hospitals in 2003 and moved to Lewisham Hospital in 2006.
His main clinical interest is minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins. He was the first surgeon in London and the South of England to use the Endovenous Laser for varicose vein treatment under local anaesthetic in 2003 and the first surgeon in the UK to use the Clarivein technique in 2010. Revolutionary at the time, these techniques are now the standard method for treating varicose veins.
According to data provided by the Private Hospital Information Network, Mr Chaloner has one of the largest vein surgery practices in the UK, operating on over 700 patients in a normal year.
Mr Chaloner is a prominent international key opinion leader in varicose vein surgery. He was a founder member of the Charing Cross international veins workshop, the leading forum for vein surgery in Europe. He has taught dozens of other surgeons how to perform minimally invasive vein surgery at frequent hands on training courses.
